Acrylics / Portraits

“...These human figures Pietro has been painting for years are 'indoor portraits' as variations on a basic 'theme' found right at the centre of his researches and which come from far away. Far away because the artist has dedicated his whole life to this great idea, more speculative and poetic than pictorial. It is also because these figures do not hide the affinities which bring them close to remote, archaic models where, à la Karl Jung, he has found confirmation for his own absolute, his own truth, his own shape. He brings these into the modern world with technology, depersonalisation, alienation as formal wisdom, and is so refined and extreme that he has an answer for all the problems a composition can bring. So light-handed, it seems 'easy,' spontaneous, and natural.

Anyone who sees this garden of anthropomorphic signs, even only once, will never forget the hand that grew them...”
